Budget Fraud: The Republican Party is Too Far Gone To Save
Rational Public Radio has heaped plenty of abuse upon the Republican party, and has taken some heat for it. After all, we want small government and so do they, right? We should unite against the Democrats who are the real enemy!
Well, the short answer is no, they don't want a small government. Oh make no mistake, they put out a great show about small government. They nearly "shut down" the government to ensure they got the "needed cuts."
The thing is, it's all political theater. My idea of budget cuts looks like this. I think it's important, crucially important, to get our debt under control. That means we must not only stop accumulating new debt (meaning the deficit must be eliminated), but that a sizeable surplus be generated to pay off the existing debt. It has to be a real surplus too, not a Clintonian lie.
The Republican idea of a cut, the amount we had all of this heated debate over, is 353 million. That's right, million with an M. 353 Million out of a projected deficit of over 1.6 trillion. With a T.
Let's look at that in numerical form:
$353,000,000
$1,600,000,000,000
How about in pictorial form:
vs.
Hmmm....so, that works out to .02% of the deficit, or less than .01% of the overall budget. That doesn't even rise to the level of a rounding error. It's absolutely embarrassing.
I say that it is now impossible to support the Republican party in good faith. They no longer deserve any shred of the mantle of "fiscal conservatism" they try to claim. They make noise about it, but they absolutely do not deliver. Worse, they have no intention of delivering.
If you vote for Republicans hoping to get the budget under control, you are being scammed, and you are undermining the chances that someone else can actually fix the problem.
I say it is time the Tea Party becomes a full fledged political party. I can't stomach voting for another lying to my face Republican.
For those few decent Republicans in the party, aren't you ashamed to have people like this in the same party? Can't you feel their deceit staining your very soul? Doesn't their hypocrisy make you ashamed to call yourself a Republican?
I say it's time to leave.

Canada 1993: The old Tory party implodes going from over 155 seats to only 2 seats in one election. Liberals have an overwhelming majority until 2006, when the new Conservative party of Canada wins a minority govt. So there you go, ditch the GOP instead of reform it and you can give the Dems a supermajority for the next 12-16 years.
