Republicans Abandon Healthcare Repeal
After well over a year of righteous indignation, the Republican party is quietly admitting defeat on repealing Obamacare. The American people clearly oppose this law, and sent the republicans to Washington largely because they promised to repeal it.
Healthcare, and government deficit spending were the two main issues that swept the Republicans into control of the House. First, the GOP gave up on government spending, by agreeing to cuts of just a 350 million.
They claimed the cuts amounted to 38 billion, but the math just doesn't support them. In short, the Republicans don't want cuts anymore than the democrats, but they have to pay lip service to their fiscally conservative base.
Now, they are quietly giving up hope on repealing Obamacare. Dave Camp (R-Mich) is the chairman of the house means and ways committee. Today, he admitted that, "Republican plans to repeal President Barack Obama’s signature health care law were dead.”
Sure, he continued on with a lot of noise about how they would still attack the individual mandate, but I feel confident that this will ultimately be compromised on too. The Republican party has a terrible track record of keeping their promises, which is strange because polling continues to suggest that the American people agree with them on many issues.
So, they won't cut spending, and they won't repeal Obamacare. We certainly can't expect them to live up to any campaign promises they make in the future. We can't even trust them to be honest about their facts and figures while they betray their base. Exactly why should anyone vote for them?
If you like the Democrat party plan, just vote for Democrats. At least that way you won't be voting for a liar. If you want someone that is going to actually cut spending, and get America's government back to it's constitutionally mandated size you will have to look elsewhere.
Many people hope that the Republican party can be saved or reformed from within. They say we just need to vote out the "RINOs", the ones that don't actually vote in accordance with small government principles. However, I'm not so optimistic. I think the so-called "RINOs" make up most of the party today.
I don't think the Republican party can claim any sort of small government pro freedom mantle. I think the select few politicians that do are the real Republicans in Name Only.
